Project backgrounds
Asbestos was commonly used in the Australian construction industry. But it becomes a health risk when asbestos fibres are released into the air and inhaled. Hutchinson builders would like to make a training course to educate how to remove asbestos properly. To make viewers aware of the danger of asbestos, Hutchinson would like to let the design team be creative and bold.
Engaging content
The design team and I decided to use visual-heavy content: graphics, animations, and interactive design. We also wanted to design the whole interactive course as a storytelling journey and apply Queensland culture.
Visual Style
The visual style was inspired by the sophisticated IKEA instructions style. At the same time, the instructional design lead considered the client's requirement - be creative and bold, and decided to combine the content with the casual jokes in the story, which creates a huge contrasting effect in visual and narration.

Storyboards and motion design
I was responsible for all the storyboards in the course whether for stills or motion design. The scriptwriter and I worked together to make fun humorous content-filled.

The enjoyable part of this project was the freedom to use crazy ideas. For example, when we presented about "clean up properly is important and don't put others at risk", we exaggerated the character throwing the garbage outside of the bin causing atomic bomb explosion.

The instructions accuracy
Besides the fun part of the course, the information on the removal of asbestos is presented in a professional way. The team spent time making sure the process is correct, and all the essential items have been covered. In the interactive course, the user even can download checklists of items and procedures.

Results
Queensland government has provided this project as a free interactive course to let everyone download and see. Click to find out.
We have successfully created a learning course that is both engaging and fun. The asbestos removal project proved that a seemingly hazardous task could be presented in a friendly and less intimidating way.
