Background

As our digital ecosystem expanded across multiple channels—web, mobile apps, MyAccount, internal tools, and even third-party vendor integrations—the need for a unified design approach became increasingly clear. Inconsistent user experiences, misalignment between design and engineering, and bottlenecks in delivering updates were slowing us down.

Project Goals

Our Design System (DLS) aimed to create a unified, scalable, and efficient digital experience by establishing a single source of truth for design and development. Key objectives included:

Unifying the user experience across all platforms.
Enhancing collaboration between design, brand, and engineering.
Improving efficiency for faster design and development.
Accelerating onboarding for teams and vendors.
Enabling rapid prototyping for quicker feedback.
Reducing personnel risk by minimizing dependency on key designers.

Plan to Achieve the Design System Goals

To successfully implement the Design System (DLS) and achieve our project goals, we followed a structured, phased approach:

Phase 1: Establishing the Foundation

Laying the groundwork with clear principles, structure, and governance:

Naming & Structure Workshop – Define a consistent taxonomy for components.
Interaction Design Principles Workshop – Establish design guidelines for usability and accessibility.
Governance & Update Workshop – Set processes for maintaining and evolving the Digital Design System.
Code & Design Documentation – Ensure alignment between design and development.
Reusable Designer Training – Educate designers on system components and best practices.

Phase 2: System Expansion & Implementation

Conduct a MyAccount Design Library Audit to ensure consistency.
Complete Figma full documentation for MyAccount.
Finalize Storybook integration with complete component documentation.

Phase 3: Finalization & Scalability

Completing and expanding the system for broader adoption.
Finalise and launch the Figma Alinta Sales Tool Library with Digital Design System.
Complete the Alinta Sales Tool Library Storybook for development reference.
